WOW! What a day!! Our friend and oh so incredibly helpful advisor from the Women's Enterprise Center, Maurice, met with Michelle and I today to help us start the strategic planning session for our retail stores. We did production last week, this week was retail. Maurice helped us put on paper our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT!). From here we are creating an action plan that will detail all the things we need to do to accomplish our goals, address our weaknesses, capitalize on our opportunities and lessen the threats.
It was both invigorating and depressing at the same time. Looking at the amount of work is daunting but realizing where we could be once its all done makes my heart soar.
Another plus-minus (in my book only) is that we were chosen as finalists for the 2010 Manitoba Business Awards in the category of Outstanding Small Business. (FYI, its only a minus because we have to have video taken of Michelle and I in our store and that is NOT my favourite activity). For a bit more on all the finalists, click here.
We are honored to be among these wonderful businesses, although feeling a bit unworthy. We know we've come a VERY long way but there is still so much further for us to go - its almost like I don't feel we've earned it until we've gotten there. Well, maybe then we'll be nominated for Outstanding Large Business :o).
