One of my best friends (21 years of friendship) was recently diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 39. She underwent surgery for a single mastectomy a couple of weeks ago and will be starting 6 months of chemotherapy followed by radiation. It is surreal, but she is a tremendous inspiration for all of those around her. I am awestruck by her incredibly positive attitude and I often think that if it were me, I would simply crawl up into a ball and hide in my bed. I have not heard her complain through all of this and with that mindset I have no doubt that she will fight this cancer and win!
On Sunday, October 3, there are 20 of us walking in the CIBC Run for the Cure on the Think Pink Team in support of our dear friend. You won't be able to miss us because we will be wearing pink cowboy hats and boas (we are going to have some fun with this!). There isn't a limit to the number who can join our team so if you are interested in having some fun and supporting a great cause, please email me at michelle@tiberriver.ca. We would also welcome any donations since I am quickly learning how many women this disease impacts. So many young women with young families.
We also recently lost a client and dear friend to cancer. She was only 37 and a beautiful, vibrant woman. Be grateful for your health today and do one small thing that can help others.
Hey Michelle, that's awesome that you and the team are doing the walk and helping raise funds. Breast cancer is truly a terrible disease and we're all affected by it. Go Think Pink Team!!

Great post, Michelle!! Unfortunately, cancer is something that doesn't just affect the person with it - it affects everyone! It is also something that tends to leave family and friends feeling helpless. What a wonderful show of support and encouragement you are giving your friend, Michelle!!
