Good Morning all! Figured I should post a quick few words here, let you all know what's been going on.
My family and I went to Calgary this past weekend for a hockey tournament. Bella and I got to fly (lucky, lucky us, as it turned out). Thursday was heavenly for us. We left early in the morning, got in and headed straight to the hotel. We napped, swam, went down the water slide and filled our little bellies. Tom, Lucas and the rest of the team, however, did not fare as well. Their bus broke down just outside of Regina, so they had to wait for another one to get there. Then that one broke down too. They got lost (in Medicine Hat - don't ask me how, they are still trying to figure that one out) and again in Calgary trying to find the hotel. 20 hours later, they arrive at the hotel, tired, hungry and cranky. We get Lucas up the next morning at 7 so he can have a chance to eat before his early game. He passes out in the bathroom and it turns out, he's got the chicken pox!
The event managers apparently had their hands full with the older kids in the tournament because they could only round up one volunteer to open the rink for the kids. There was no one to open the concession stand AT ALL and we couldn't leave between games because none of us had a car. Someone finally volunteered to make a quick run to Timmy's for the boys. I have to send a big THANK YOU to that wonderful volunteer who helped our boys out many times this weekend! She went out of her way to help, even though she was the ONLY one there, the entire weekend! Shame on the tournament organizers.
The next morning, we wake up to SNOW! The heaters don't work at the arena's so we've piled on whatever clothes we brought. The boys are real troopers, hanging in to win all their games.
The championship game on Sunday was a real nail bitter, but in overtime, with 4 on 4, Lucas sets up a brilliant play (if I can brag a little) and his team mate wins the game with a diving rebound. Oh, it was wonderful, but a little too much for someone with high blood pressure (ME!).
We head out for a nice relaxing meal at my aunt and uncles but Lucas had a reaction to something and ends up asleep on their couch and me calling Health Links to see if we can even get on the plane or if we're stuck.
We made it home at midnight on Sunday, to find our basement flooded with 6 inches of water, the power out on our street and in our kitchen. And no, we're not covered for any damages. SO, all in all this weekend pretty much bit the big one BUT, the nice thing is that Luc is on the mend, we're all together and things can only go up from here.
Here's hoping your weekend was better than mine!
