Remember tomorrow is our annual Halloween Howl and Food Drive for Winnipeg Harvest from 10-6 at both locations.  Dress up the kids in their costumes and bring them down to Tiber River.  We will have trick or treats and spooky nail decals for the kids.  Please bring a food item or two if you can.

Hello Again!

Good Morning everyone.  Adriana here!  It's good to be back, although I must say, it was nice not thinking about what I would be posting every week.  It took me awhile to think about what to write. Today will be about change. 

I'm a big one for change.  I can't go one haircut without doing something different.  I LOVE change.  Actually, its more than that - I NEED change.  If things go too long without something changing, I start to get antsy.  My life for the past 5 months has been nothing but change.  No sleep (Kal, I SO hear you about crappy sleepers!), trying to work with a squirming baby who wants to join in the fun, health complications and the constant go of two other kids in swimming, gymnastics and hockey make for busy times.  Not to mention that the only 'meaningful' conversation I've had with my hubby is about who is going to play D (defense, for all you non-hockey parents out there) on Lucas's hockey team.  

Other than the first two months after Tori's arrival, which were probably the hardest two months of my life, I have enjoyed this time.  I am certainly enjoying Tori, more so than I did with the other two.  With Bella, I was a neurotic, first time parent who continuously got caught up in making sure I did all the right things and constant wondering what I was doing wrong to make my baby cry so much.  With Lucas, I had Tiber River (and no Michelle to help) and Tom had taken parental leave because the business couldn't run without me.  He got to enjoy all the things I missed being at work.  This time, even though I was back at work a month after having her, I am truly enjoying her.  She is so beautiful, so engaging, so interested and just so much fun!

I do realize, though, that I may be one of the few that needs change.  Most people run as fast as they can so change cannot catch up with them (Bella is one of these).  I understand its difficult, but I guess I see things in a different way.  I look to the possibilities change brings.  I get excited by them.  Having now opened Tiber #2, Michelle and I are focusing on creating a business structure that matches our success at creating great products and a wonderful retail and service experience.  As we grow, if we don't have the proper structure, everything good about our business will disappear.  In the coming months, I invite you to experience our challenges and see how we grow.  If we do it properly, no one will know these changes are taking place - and that's our goal.  Do it right the first time!

Happy Birthdays at Tiber River!

A great big Happy Birthday goes out to Adriana and Natalia today!  I hope you both do something special for yourselves and celebrate being "you". 

Natalia is one of our talented estheticians at our Kenaston location and Adriana is the best business partner I could ask for!  Adriana and I have learned that together we can do anything and we are in the process of really shaking things up over here at Tiber - yippee!

We went to the Haunted Forest at A Maze In Corn in St. Adolphe yesterday.  It was tons of fun and I'd highly recommend heading out there before Halloween on Saturday.  Get there if you can!

Get Your Costumes Ready!

We are hosting a little Halloween Howl and annual food drive for Winnipeg Harvest next Saturday, October 31 at both our Academy and Kenaston locations from 10-6 pm.  Dress the kids up in their costumes and bring a food item or two.  The kids will enjoy some yummy treats, spooky decals for their nails, and perhaps a little bobbing for apples fun.  We hope to see you there!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!  I love Thanksgiving and I am grateful for so many things.  Most importantly, our fabulous Tiber River team, our fantastic customers, my two girls, my husband, and my family & friends. 

We had an enlightening speaker come out for our monthly team meeting last Wednesday.  Suan Kuz, from The Passion Test, spoke about what truly makes us happy and how important it is to feel and show thanks and gratitude every day.  She encouraged us to keep a gratitude journal and write down 3 things that we are thankful for each night before going to bed.  It can be as big as the health of our family or something simple like a stranger going out of their way to do something really nice for us that day.

What are you most thankful for?  I challenge you to start a gratitude journal and if you already do, we would love to hear what it means to you.

Slowly...

My apologies for the hiccup between posts, there have been some wacky typepad changes and I needed time to figure them out.  I think I've got it now!

This weekend is all about SLOW since I have managed to pick up a wicked bug (and I don't know how to STOP).  I've spent the weekend puttering around the house bringing out the boots, winter jackets, mittens & scarves, and I've manged to purge almost 5 recycling bags of clothes.  It feels great to declutter, organize, and simplify.

We adopted a kitten yesterday for the girls because Oreo, our 16 year old cat, went to Kitty Heaven on Thursday.  I've had him since he was a kitten so it wasn't easy.  Our new cat, Cupcake, was a completely impulsive decision because Nixon (our other cat) was so lost without him.  Unfortunately, she is too busy hissing and swinging at everyone to be a cat mom, I'm giving it a week.

We are teaming up with the Bra Bar on Kenaston for a Breast Cancer Fundraiser on Tuesday night from 7-9.  There are still a few spots available, please call 284.4247 if you'd like to join us.  There will be nibblies, wine, bra fittings, and mini manicures.  You will receive 10% off all purchases that evening and everyone will receive a $10 off card for an esthetic service at Tiber River.  A percentage of all proceeds will go to Helping Hands for Manitobans with Breast Cancer.  This organization provides financial assistance to local women undergoing treatment for Breast Cancer.  Come out and support a great cause!

Tiber River Book Club

I am always thrilled when an idea actually comes to fruition.  In November, we are starting the Tiber River Book Club and will begin by reading books written by local authors.  We will host an evening at Tiber River every 2 months.  We will have a firm date for our first Book Club Event in November next week, but I do know it will be a Tuesday. 

The first book we are going to read is The Prairie Bridesmaid by Winnipeg author Daria Salamon.  She will actually be attending the book club to facililate the discussion, talk about her book, and answer questions.  I am so excited that she has offered to do this and I feel a LOT of Tiber lotion heading her way (thank goodness she loves our products!). 

The next one will be in January so if you have any recommendations, please let us know.

Swimming anyone?

Welcome October, tell me where did September go?

I would like to share a recommendation for a local business in our community.  One of our valued customers, Rishona runs Aqua Essence here in Winnipeg.  They provide swimming lessons for children.  They are fantastic and they offer group lessons, private (one-on-one), or semi-private.  Their instructors are the best and I was so impressed with Paige's progress in her first session in the Spring.  There are still some openings for the Fall session, so if you are looking, check out the website. 

I also meant to send a thank you out to Stephanie Staples from  Your Life Unlimited for inviting us to her nurses' retreat on Saturday morning.  Tanya and I were happy to start their day off right and enjoyed treating the ladies to mini manicure.  Thank you Stephanie, it was fun!
