MIchelle and I met with Kal this past Friday to discuss the layout of our new location - she's going to put together a designers board so we can see what the space will look like. VERY exciting. Anyway, we got talking about blogging and about how great it would be if we opened up the blog to our other team members, customers, suppliers, whomever. Other people with other points of view. Michelle thought this was a great idea. I, on the other hand, sat in silent horror - OTHER people on my blog??? What about me??? I guess I have to confess that I LOVE posting on this blog!! LOVE IT! I love the writing aspect of it, the act of releasing information out into the universe. I have never journaled - NEVER! I've tried a few times, and it lasted maybe a week, if that. I think the idea of a journal is wasted on me because after a few days of writing, I think - well, I know all this, I'm not discovering anything new here. What a waste of time writing it down! With this blog, I think it's the idea that other people can read what I'm writing that interests me. Like some kind of reverse voyeurism. I'm not sure what it is, but it's become a part of my routine, and it's not one I'm going to give up easily, if at all!
Now, having said all that, this blog is SUPPOSED to be about Tiber River, not Adriana De Luca - can you see why I was called a blog hog?!! So, I've come up with a solution. I continue my blogs as always, and when we have guest bloggers, they will just blog after me (or maybe before, depending on how early I'm up!). It is a great idea and will enhance this blog greatly. You know the saying - 'The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts!' This blog needs more than just Adriana, so some new points of view will be coming soon!
All of which leads me to our tip of the day.
LIFE WELL LIVED TIP #3 - Be Flexible. And I don't mean with your legs, although that helps too. What I mean is with your mind. Do you have a knee-jerk reaction to dismiss any idea, action, or thought, that might be different than how you would have thought about it, done it, understood it? I admit I have a tendancy to think I know best, especially when it comes to my kids and my business. However, shocker though it may be, I DON'T always know best. Everyone has great ideas and I've found the trick is to take everyone's ideas and make something great from them. No one can know everything all of the time. We need to all work together, to work off each other's ideas, to make something greater than it ever could have been if it had come from just one mind. The ability to be flexible is paramount in team work. We need to open ourselves up to other people's point of view. And do this in balance, it's not absolute. It's the idea that we can make things greater, go farther, be more by listening and thinking about what other's may have to say. Over this past weekend, I've been thinking about this blog, and as I said, my first thought was No Way, but by freeing myself from my own ideas, I was able to see how much more interesting this blog would be to everyone, if there were more speakers/writers here. By being flexible, and not dismissing an idea because it was different than my own, I think we will create a wider-appealing information arena.
My challenge for you is to open your mind and see things from a different perspective. Look around, take off the blinders, and think about what other's may see. Use this in your 1+1+1 challenge (see Kal's entry if you didn't read Saturday's post). Grow, bloom, be flexible!!
Adriana - I am in love with the Tiber River hand wash. I have the YUZU scent and I wash my hands about a zillion times a day and THIS STUFF ROCKS. It's smooth and my hands are not getting dried out!! It's a miracle. Thanks for inventing something so good.
